Sophie & Dudley are six months old today!  They went to their first show today at Leominster Canine Limited show and behaved beautifully and showed well.  Sophie gained a very respectable 3rd in AV Gundog Puppy and Dudley 2nd in AV Gundog Junior - handled by Georgie!  The judge for the day was Nick Grosvenor (Pastoral/Working judge)

At last, the news we have been waiting for has arrived!

The FN (Familial Nephropathy) test that we have been waiting for will be available through OptiGen very soon. They have signed the licensing agreement and they are now licensed to do the test in the  US & Canada.  They are working on the details and will get the information up on their website www.optigen.com just as soon as possible, maybe even as soon as a week. The testing may start as early as January. This test will be a blood test, not a cheek swab. The  actual price of the test has not been released yet.

So in about a week from now, watch for more details on their website, www.optigen.com

Jeanette Felix of OptiGen says "We'll be putting full information on our website within a week, but I can tell you briefly that OptiGen does have the right to FN  test any samples from Europe THAT WE ALREADY tested for prcd-PRA. But we  can't take in any new samples for the FN test from Europe, per the license  agreement.  We have frozen sample stored from all ECS PRA tests done  previously, and we've decided to make that available for FN testing, even if the owner did not pay the fee for long-term storage. We hope that will help many obtain the new FN test more easily. Please ask folks to wait just a bit longer for full details."

On the 1st September, after a busy summer we went off on a much needed holiday.  We had a great time despite the high humidity and temperatures in the mid 40's C.  The highlight was definitely the day at Discovery Cove.  Dolphin's are such wonderful animals, so clever & intuitive.  When we swam with CJ, he pulled Georgie along quite gently, it was as if he knew she was a child; when he took us for a swim he went at a rate of knots! It was such a special experience to share some time with a dolphin, none of us will forget the day.

We said au revoir to Phoebe today.  Phoebe has gone to live with Pip and our dearest friends Rosemary & David.

Phoebe has been a joy to live with, she's the daughter we thought we'd never have from Rosie, she's the most loving & sweetest of girls and we know she will enjoy all the benefits of retirement.

No doubt we will see Phoebe often!

"We have been on our first PAT assignment this afternoon. Chris, I was so proud of her she was absolutely faultless. We went to a local residential home where a lot of the residents have had CVA's. But seeing their faces light up when we went in was priceless. There was a blind lady who started crying when she stroked Muppet and then there was this really nice old guy called who is desperate for us to return and could of stroked Mupp's all day, she appeared to be up for this too.

I obviously think Muppet is the best dog in the world and it was so nice to share her with someone else. All your hard work, love and devotion at Powerscourt in the beginning is priceless. She is just such a well adjusted dog, thank you so much for her."

"Powerscourt" Basil Fawlty joined the family today.  Basil hasn't had the best of starts, a passer-by found him in a river.  Fortunately for Basil the good Samaritan took him straight to the RSPCA.  Basil has a fractured pelvis due to being kicked, however after surgery he's now on the mend & we looking forward to offering him a happy future.

Our precious Bramble left home today to live with our friend Alison in nearby Hereford.  Bramble has been an absolute joy to live with, she is the most gentle, affectionate and sweet natured of girls.  We will see Bramble regularly, however not having her at home with us is going to be so hard.

Every dog is special but some are even more special.  Bramble has been a wonderful companion & friend.  It's never easy parting with one of our dogs, however Bramble deserves a lovely retirement & we know she will have this with Alison. We will miss her lots - enjoy yourself sweetheart.

Wonderful News

The European FN Fund is thrilled to announce that Dr. Keith Murphy, Dr. George Lees & Miss Ashley Davidson of A & M University, have today revealed that they have found the Gene Mutation responsible for FAMILIAL NEPHROPATHY

This signals the start of a new era in the fight against this killer disease, and gives us, the dedicated Cocker Spaniel breeders of the world, an opportunity to clear affected lines.

Our heartfelt thanks must go out to the dedicated people who have worked so hard for so long on our behalf.

Bonnie The CatWe  sadly had to say good bye to Bonnie our 17 year old cat today.  Bonnie was a diabetic who lived a long , full & enjoyable life.

Together, with Bertie, she kept the dogs in check and provided an interesting companion to our pups.  We will miss her terribly.

We enjoyed a nice day at Crufts, Lottie having returned to the ring for Crufts (following the fairly recent birth of her pups) did me proud.  She looked good and showed well - thank you Lottie.

It was lovely to have the company of so many friends for the day, thank you for my birthday presents and birthday cake!  To see more Crufts pictures, please click here!  You'll probably notice I have my ring card on upside down - just about sums up my day (don't ask)!!!

Whilst sorting through some photos I came across an old photo that I thought you might like to see!  So although this isn't news for 2006 I will share it with you anyway!

On my last visit to see Karin & Felix in Sweden I met a fan of Felix (I believe he owns a Felix offspring) who'd rather interestingly had a photo of Felix tattooed onto his arm! (This is the only tattoo he had - quite interesting ...)

During a pleasantly bright winters day we took the opportunity to take a photo of Bramble! At the time she was sitting in her "bird table observation post" - not to catch the birds - to eat the bird food!  Looking good for six years old, and still always hungry!!
